South African jeweller Yair Shimansky dazzled the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and all World cup fans globally after unveiling a record-breaking $2.5 million soccer ball - indubitably the most expensive football ball in the world. Being the priciest, it is likely the only ball that will never get kicked by any player.
Footballers are sure to fight over the 6,620 white and 2,640 black shimmering South African diamonds surrounding the ball. Fierce competition is expected if players have to struggle over a 3500-carat soccer ball weighing 2.2 kilograms. No one their right mind would ever kick away this ball - even if they are paid to do so.
Shimansky jokingly confessed that he did not design the ball for kicking. In fact if he did, the FIFA Soccer Ball Testing Criteria would not approve it. The jeweller might be able to imitate the circumference, sphericity, shape and size of FIFA-approved soccer balls but his diamond-studded soccerball would surely fail their test of rebound, water absorption, weight, and loss of pressure.
Notorious for ludicrous diamond-encrusted masterpieces (i.e. world's expensive tattoo), Shimansky has found a better cause for creating a soccer ball out of precious gemstones. This bejewelled ball could brilliantly remind his fellow countrymen of World Cup 2010 held in South Africa.
